History of Educatio Christi
Educatio Christi is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by the Faculty of Theology, Universitas Kristen Indonesia Tomohon (UKIT), Indonesia. Established in 2020, the journal published its inaugural issue in Volume 1, Number 1, providing an academic platform for the dissemination of scholarly research and critical reflection in theology, Christian religious education, and related areas of Christian studies. From its inception, the journal has sought to foster rigorous academic dialogue and contribute to the advancement of theological and educational scholarship within the Indonesian and broader Christian academic communities.
Since its establishment, Educatio Christi has continuously developed its editorial and publication practices in accordance with evolving standards of scholarly communication. An important milestone in this development was the journal's achievement of Sinta 4 accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, first effective for Volume 5, Number 1 (2024) and continuing through Volume 9, Number 2 (2028). The accreditation represents an institutional recognition of the journal's commitment to maintaining standards of academic quality, editorial governance, peer review, and scholarly publication.
A major phase of the journal's development began with Volume 7, Number 2 (July 2026), marking a significant step toward the internationalization of the journal. This transformation was undertaken as part of the journal's long-term commitment to increasing the accessibility, visibility, and international relevance of its scholarly contributions. As an initial component of this internationalization process, the journal's website, including its journal description, aims and scope, editorial information, author guidelines, and other key publication information, was progressively presented in English to facilitate access for an international academic audience.
Beginning with the same issue, Educatio Christi also adopted English as the primary language of publication, with articles published in full English. This language transition was accompanied by the implementation of a revised manuscript template, designed to strengthen consistency in article structure, formatting, scholarly presentation, and overall publication quality. The new template reflects the journal's effort to establish a more standardized publication framework and to facilitate the presentation of research in a form accessible to the wider international scholarly community.
The transformation initiated in July 2026 represents an important evolution in the journal's publication strategy. Rather than constituting merely a change in language or formatting, the transition reflects a broader commitment to strengthening editorial quality, international accessibility, scholarly visibility, and publication standards. Through the continued refinement of its editorial policies, peer-review practices, manuscript preparation standards, and publication processes, Educatio Christi aims to expand its contribution from the national academic landscape toward the broader international discourse in theology, Christian religious education, and related fields.
The journal's development therefore reflects a continuous trajectory from its establishment in 2020, through national accreditation, toward a more internationally oriented model of scholarly communication. Educatio Christi remains committed to publishing high-quality, original, and academically rigorous contributions while progressively strengthening its position as a credible scholarly platform for theological and Christian educational research in Indonesia and beyond.
